The countdown to Eurovision 2012 is well and truly underway, with just over a month and a half before this year’s competition touches down in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. Once again two semi-finals will see the bulk of the countries battle it out in the hope of progressing through to the Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where waiting will be the big six of the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and host nation Azerbaijan.
PASTORA SOLER : Quédate Conmigo
Spain is one of the ‘big six’ at Eurovision and therefore Pastora has already cleared one hurdle by automatically qualifying for the grand final in Baku on Saturday May 26.
No stranger to success in her homeland, she’s already released nine studio albums, the latest (Una Mujer Como Yo) coming in 2011 and placing in the top five on the Spanish albums chart.
Last month, however, she won the national selection to represent Spain in this year’s Eurovision song contest with a track called ‘Quédate Conmigo’, which translates as ‘Stay With Me’. And it’s a beauty.
A track that starts off super-soft and a little ‘meh’ slowly builds into a superb, stirring ballad with goosebump-inducing highs, chord changes and money notes. At three minutes (one of the Eurovision rules), it’s a little short for our liking, but no less impressive.
If Pastora nails this on the night, Spain may find itself with a raft of douze points from across Europe.
