The countdown to Eurovision 2012 is well and truly underway, with just over a month and a half before this year’s competition touches down in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. Once again two semi-finals will see the bulk of the countries battle it out in the hope of progressing through to the Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where waiting will be the big six of the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and host nation Azerbaijan.
SINPLUS : Unbreakable
Where Ireland has brothers John and Edward Grimes (aka Jedward), Switzerland has brothers Gabriel and Ivan Broggini who make up this year’s Swiss Eurovision entry Sinplus. With the hype of their Eurovision entry surrounding them, the brothers will release their first ever album in their homeland at sometime next month. Naturally, it’s set to contain their English language entry for this year’s competition, ‘Unbreakable’.
Given, however, that the single has barely scraped the top 40 in Switzerland and the video, released a month ago, has scored just under 43,000 views thus far, there doesn’t appear to be a massive swell of home support behind the boys.
The track appears to have been heavily influenced by bands like The Killers and U2; it’s slickly-produced guitar-based pop/rock, but it lacks punch. We’re wondering whether or not ‘Unbreakable’ will shatter the boys’ dreams even before the first semi final (on Tuesday May 22) is over.
