When an Australian music industry heavyweight like Michael Parisi signs someone to his management company, you can be pretty sure that they’ve got the goods.
20 year old songstress Cat Torres is seemingly one such performer.
Born of Colombian and Uruguayan parents, Cat’s debut single ‘Kitchen On Fire’ is understandably infused with those gorgeous South American Latino rhythms.
Recorded and tracked in the UK by Jaz Rogers (who’s previously worked with the likes of Lauryn Hill and Daniel Merriweather) and mixed by Phil Tan (Kimbra, Rihanna) in the US, there’s no denying the track’s appeal. So much so that British Radio 1’s very own Zane Lowe was one of the first to show interest.
Throbbing electro beats, crunching percussion, a feisty street-wise attitude and layerings of Latina swagger combine to create a sound that’s as fresh as morning dew and unlike anything we’ve heard out of Australia in recent times.
She’s working with more big names as we speak, but for now it’s very much a case of ‘watch this space’. In the meantime, however, you clap your ears around ‘Kitchen On Fire’ below. There’s even a sneaky FREE download link.
