As far as reality show winners these days are concerned, X Factor star Reece Mastin has done pretty well for himself. His debut album, containing studio recordings of tracks he performed on the show and released shortly after his win, sold double platinum, peaking at No.2 on the ARIA albums chart.
His winner’s single ‘Good Night’, penned by former Australian Idol performer Hayley Warner, may have sounded like it was ripped straight from the P!nk back catalogue, but that didn’t stop it from selling four times platinum (over 280,000 copies) and counting.
For his new single, which was officially serviced to radio this week, they haven’t tinkered with the formula too much, again enlisting Ms Warner’s help in the songwriting department. But what they have done is upped the rock factor slightly. ‘Shut Up And Kiss Me’ diverts from the straight-out pop of Reece’s debut and sees him driving down an avenue of crunking electric guitars and more rock-styled vocals.
The clip finds our leading man leading his minions into what looks like a discarded warehouse… Until we discover there’s a fully functional carousel, a stage and a band ready to accompany him all the way ’til close.
