We’ll admit to being completely besotted with this new single from up and coming Melbourne four piece World’s End Press.
‘Second Day Uptown’ is the first track to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming debut album and with the burgeoning support of high profile music mags, Australia’s community radio network and the almighty Triple J, it’s surely but a matter of time before the band’s becomes a household name.
They’ve hit the ground running in the live arena too – working their arses off with live slots at the likes of Splendour In The Grass and the Laneway and Falls Festivals, as well as touring with the likes of Cut Copy and labelmates Little Red.
It’s said bands that should give you a little hint as to which musical genre this band might be boxed into, but ‘Second Day Uptown’ like living comfortably outside the square. It’s ’80s-esque synth stabs and bubbling percussion, it’s old/nu-school pop with layered choruses and clever lyrics, it’s danceable. And it’s entirely likeable. It’s not what mainstream is, but it’s what mainstream could be if the ghosts of commercial radio present peeled off their opaque Guetta-blinders and let a little local pop sunshine in.
World’s End Press’ debut album is due in the second half of the year.
