International chart sensation Gotye was the big winner at last night’s 29th Annual APRA Awards. Held at the Sydney Convention and Entertainment Centre, the awards celebrate the achievements of both songwriters and publishers and were handed out in nine categories celebrating different genres, including the big three gongs of Most Played Australian Work, Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
Hosted by Missy Higgins and Jonathan Biggins (someone loves a rhyme), proceedings opened with a tribute to Bee Gee Robin Gibb, who passed away early last week; Singer songwriter Bob Evans performing the Bee Gees’ classic ‘I Started A Joke’.
Tina Arena and Tex Perkins performed a stirring rendition of Gotye’s international megahit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, which took the award for the Most Played Australian Work, along with the coveted Song Of The Year.
