Well it’s now May and that can only mean one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t far away. It’s now just seven sleeps before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year’s competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we’re continuing our daily look at each of the competitors’ songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.
IRIS : Would You?
We imagine it’d be a pretty daunting exercise to have to step onto the stage at the world’s biggest singing competition with the hopes and dreams of your fellow country men and women on your shoulders… Even more so when you’re just 17 years old. But that’s precisely what young Belgian songstress Iris will do as part of the first Eurovision semi-final coming up next Tuesday. Iris will be performing the track ‘Would You’, which has already achieved a top 20 chart placing in Belgium.
But if the likes vs dislikes on the official YouTube clip below are anything to go by, the voting for this simple ballad looks like it’s going to be split fairly evenly.
Which is a shame, because Iris’ voice is the stand out here. There’s something tonally really beautiful about it. Will she make it through to the Grand Final on Saturday week?
