Well it’s now May and that can only mean one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t far away. It’s now just four sleeps before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year’s competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we’re in the process of winding up our daily looks at each of the competitors’ songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.
PERNILLA KARLSSON : När Jag Blundar
She may be only 21 years of age, but Finnish Eurovision entrant Pernilla Karlsson has been performing for years. Six years ago, at the age of 15, she won the Finnish/Swedish talent competition ‘Världens Minsta Schlagerfestival’ and after a little break from music, returned with the help of her brother.
There’ll be plenty of love for this track across the border in Sweden, given the track (which means ‘When I Close My Eyes’) is performed entirely in Swedish.
We actually like this track too – it’s understated and classy and Pernilla’s voice is super-clear. Throw in a splash of contemporary dance to try and distract you throughout the performance and you’ve got ‘När Jag Blundar’.
