Well it’s now May and that can only mean one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t far away. It’s now just two weeks before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year’s competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we’re continuing our daily look at each of the competitors’ songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.
IZABO : Time
Straight out of left-field comes Izabo, Israel’s entry for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. The band has been in existence for the past 23 years and therefore have ridden a wave of national support in order to make it through to the first semi final, a fortnight from today. The track they’ll take to this year’s competition is called ‘Time’, written by band members Ran Shem Tov and Shiri Hadar.
It’s a curious little tune too – blending pop sensibilities with splashes of rock, middle eastern vibes and many theatrics, evidenced by the fact the official video (below) is set in a circus tent. It’s insanely quirky, slightly familiar, strangely intoxicating and just a little addictive. Who knew?
