Well it’s now May and that can only mean one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t far away. It’s now just five sleeps before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year’s competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we’re in the final days of our daily look at each of the competitors’ songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.
ANMARY : Beautiful Song
After placing second in her year of Latvian TV talent competition ‘Talantu Fabrika 2’, 32 year old songstress Anmary was earlier this year chosen as her country’s representative at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. She’ll take to the stage for Latvia in the first of the semi finals this Tuesday, where she’ll perform a track called ‘Beautiful Song’. This, unfortunately, is where Anmary may hit her first, biggest and possibly last snag. It’s the song. Here are the lyrics from the first eight lines…
“I was born in a distant 1980, The year the Irish Johnny Logan won, Now he’s old, you know, still kinda famous, Could be my way, today’s my day, I’m singing of my song. If I win as many did before me, If this song became a big known hit, I would buy a modern mic to sing it, And all the jobs I did before I’m surely gonna quit.”
Need we go any further? It’s a bit, nay a lot of a stinker.
