Well it’s now May and that can only mean one thing – the Eurovision Song Contest isn’t far away. It’s now just weeks before entrants from across Europe descend on the Azerbaijani capital Baku to take part in the first of the semi finals in this year’s competition. Each semi final consists of 18 performances, with just ten performers from each making it through to the 2012 Grand Final on Saturday May 26, where the ‘big five’ of the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy, along with the host nation Azerbaijan, will be waiting for them. Here at auspOp, we’re continuing our daily look at each of the competitors’ songs in the lead-up to Eurovision 2012.
FILIPA SOUSA : Vida Minha
27 year old singing competition starlet Filipa Sousa will carry the hopes of the Portuguese people into the second semi final at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. She’ll be performing a track called ‘Vida Minha’, which translates into English as ‘Life Of Mine’ and is one of only a handful of songs in this year’s competition sung in the country’s own language. Incorporating elements of the Portuguese musical genre “Fado”, ‘Vida Minha’ is a stirring slow-tempo ballad, but it’s the live clip (below) that makes it pure Eurovision gold – big diva vocals, five backing vocalists and a key change, along with a pair of contemporary dancers flouncing just off-stage.
Not quite sure how this one will fare.
