Once again, if you live outside the Eastern states, you may very well wish to avert your gaze for the moment so that you can watch SBS’ delayed telecast of the Eurovision Grand Final.
For the rest of the country, however, we will now reveal that Sweden has won the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest convincingly, beating out the highly fancied Russian entry of the gorgeous grannies of Buranovskiye Babushki (second) and Serbia’s Željko Joksimović who placed third.
Not such good news for the “cellar dwellers”, however, with Norway garnering just seven votes, Engelbert Humperdinck’s British entry with just 12 votes and Hungary’s Compact Disco with 19 votes.
Sweden’s Loreen swept the voting with her dance/pop track ‘Euphoria’, which polled an amazing 372 votes, 113 ahead of Russia. The track also looks like it’s found favour with Australian audiences, already heading well into the top 50 on the local iTunes charts tonight.
Will local media sit up and take note by adding the track to their playlists? Will Warner officially service the track to media this week to capitalise on its Eurovision success? They’d be mad not to…
