For the first time ever, the team from ARIA has unveiled a mid-year run-down of the tracks and albums that have been shaking up the Australian charts in the first half of the year.
Not surprisingly, British songstress Adele is in the No.1 position, with the boys from One Direction not too far behind her. Hilltop Hoods, Lana Del Rey and The Black Keys make up positions three, four and five.
Over on the singles side of the draw, it’s all about Carly Rae Jepsen and her international smash ‘Call Me Maybe’, followed by Flo Rida & Sia’s ‘Wild Ones’, Nicki Minaj’s ‘Starships’, Flo Rida’s current No.1 hit ‘Whistle’ and the fun. collaboration with Janelle Monae ‘We Are Young’.
CEO of ARIA Dan Rosen was thrilled to unleash the first edition.
“ARIA is excited to publish a mid-year ARIA Chart for the very first time this weekend. We expect the Chart to spark debate amongst friends, encourage predictions for our End of Year Chart and give music fans a chance to reflect on a big six months of music.
“It is also pleasing to see the large Aussie contingent who are making their presence felt on the ARIA Charts so far in 2012, with all signs pointing towards a huge year for Australian music and our local artists,” he said in a statement.

Hey Anonymous #2,
We agree that it would be much easier. However…
We’re not permitted to publish the weekly charts in full… Only selected highlights.
We’d have to enter into an agreement with ARIA simply to publish the top five, so we decided a comprehensive story on the charts each week would be better than a simple top five singles/albums chart.
