Well here’s a delightful little surprise from one of the most overlooked singer songwriters of our time… The lovely Alicia Keys is back with the brand new single ‘New Day’ and right now, she’s giving the bloody thing away at the Soundcloud link below absolutely FREE (hello #FreeTrackFriday)!
It’s a stomping, marching, percussion-heavy tune about hope and turning over a positive new leaf that relies more on the beat rather than Alicia’s voice. The track has been produced by Keys’ husband Swiss Beatz.
It’s anticipated that this is the first taste of a new Alicia Keys album, due later this year.

Hey Anonymous #2,
Gosh – we reckon that’s something you’d need to ask her or her manager!
We could ask Sony locally, but they’d have no idea ’cause that would have been a decision made a while ago by people in the US.

I think it’s a good thing that artists run stuff through free channels first. It can measure the interest of the consumers/listeners/fans- to let them know they’re on the right track with where an upcoming album is going/ If it flops while it’s free, then they can push through in another direction.
Who cares about iTunes? Just ‘cos something is popular doesn’t mean it’s quality.
I don’t mind it but I actually don’t think of Alicia Keys as an “urban artist”, she makes music for people, not black or white, not urban or just pop lovers.

This is all good and well, but why hasn’t the ‘Put it in a Love Song’ music video been released? It was from her Elements of Freedom album and the video was made but not released.
Do you know why Auspop?

American urban singers do this all the time. They post their singles online (YouTube) before the iTunes release date. Anyways I’m not feeling this. Alicia can do much better.
