California-based singer Chris Rene shot to fame in the inaugural US edition of the global TV smash ‘The X Factor’. Though he eventually finished third in the competition, his appeal was such that his debut single ‘Young Homie’ was widely expected to do the business on the US charts. It didn’t, but it did find support in the most unlikely of countries… New Zealand!
Yes, our friends over the ditch sent ‘Young Homie’ all the way to No.1 on the RIANZ chart and gifted it a platinum accreditation.
Now comes single No.2 – the very pop, very mainstream, reggae-infused ‘Trouble’. It’s actually so mainstream that you could possibly almost even hear the boys from One Direction belting this one out. i.e. It’s got Syco’s fingerprints all over it.
It’s Chris’ velvety voice that does the track justice, but we can’t help but think that artistically he’s WAY above this.
