Another week has gone, but before we say goodbye to Friday (as well as August, as well as winter), we’re here to deliver your weekly dose of free track amazingness with our latest regular segment, Free Track Friday.
Each Friday, we bring together a host of fab free downloads that have landed in our inbox throughout the week and we then deliver them to you here on your Friday.
So remember, it’s not just Friday anymore. It’s #FreeTrackFriday…
Downloading finger at the ready…
• DEAR PRUDENCE : Coming Apart Again
Our mates over at the Popmusicity blog gave us a little heads-up to the delights of five piece British outfit Dear Prudence. And though there doesn’t appear to be too much information on the band, under the vocal direction of lead singer Madeleine Poncia, we’re rather liking what they’re bringing to the table musically. She’s got kind of a Jessie J/Lily Allen thing going on. It’s rather British – and rather glorious. Download away HERE.
• LADYHAWKE : Blue Eyes (Jacques Renault Remix)
Gotta love a little slice of New Zealand songstress Ladyhawke on a Friday evening – and you’ve gotta love said slice a whole lot more when it’s being offered up as a free download! Yes, Pip’s latest single ‘Blue Eyes’ has been given a smooth six minute reworking by Jacques Renault. And for a limited time, you’re able to download the remix for nix over at Modular’s SOUNDCLOUD page.
• VISITOR : Coming Home (Viceroy Remix)
Earlier this month, we brought you news of this absolutely brilliant track from an expat Aussie electronic duo Lucas and Kyle (AKA Visitor). At the time, we said that their new single ‘Coming Home’ was “hands down one of our favourite Aussie releases of the year.” Now Viceroy has got his hands on it, crafting a fab little remix that Visitor knows you’re going to love. So much so, they’re giving the remix away FREE. Check it out and download away HERE.
• HOLLAND : Without You
Now the cover image (pictured) is that of their debut EP ‘No Control’, which was released towards the end of last year. BUT, we’re simply using that to promote a free download of the Brisbane band’s brand new single ‘Without You’, which we’re mightily impressed by. Musically, the band has been compared to the likes of Band of Horses, City and Colour, Elbow and Badly Drawn Boy and we’re especially liking Jarryd’s intoxicating, emotive vocal. Just one listen to ‘Without You’ and we know big things are in-store for them. Listen and download HERE.
• WATER GRAVES : Iridescent
A self-described “two piece chillwave pop outfit” hailing from Perth, Water Graves have just released the first track to be lifted from their forthcoming self-titled EP. And if you love your tunes a little on the electronic ambient side, then you’re totally going to dig this. ‘Iridescent’ is dreamy, floating electronic pop featuring Blake’s almost whispered vocal. So if you’ve had a tough week and you’d like a sublime new way of winding down, ‘Iridescent’ is just the tonic. Grab it free HERE.
• LIZ WOOD : Ruin
US singer songwriter Liz Wood’s new EP ‘Into My Own’ (pictured) is being released in the States in October this year, but ahead of its October 16 date with digital retail, Liz’ feisty publicity peeps have emailed us to let us know the first single from it (‘Ruin’) is being offered up free! Citing Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Bob Dylan as inspiration, Liz’ track is warm and organic and about as far removed from the world of synthesisers as possible. Listen/download HERE.
• MIKE MCCARTHY : Sink Me Not
Mike is a singer/songwriter hailing from the mid-north coast of New South Wales. Describing his music as a “mix of folk and blues”, he’ll release his new album entitled ‘The Lion’s Share’ in October this year. But to get you in the mood for its release, he’s giving away two tracks over at his Bandcamp page. The first is his new single called ‘Sink Me Not’, the other is a Jinja Safari remix of a track called ‘In Ages’. You can nab both free right HERE.
• VAN SHE : Jamaica (Unicorn Kid Remix)
We’ll wrap our #FreeTrackFriday up this week with this hot little remix of the new Van She single ‘Jamaica’, which popped into our inbox last week mere minutes after we published last week’s edition of ‘Free Track Friday’. ‘Jamaica’ is also one of our favourite Aussie pop gems of 2012, so any remix of it is always going to be welcome – especially when the bonkers peeps at Modular are giving it away for nix. You know you want it, so bag it HERE. Look for the ‘Jamaica’ video clip going live overnight tonight.
So there you have it… Another week of delicious pop music from all sorts of different bands from all sorts of different genres. No doubt there’s something in there to tickle your #FreeTrackFriday fancy. We’ll be back next week with more pop amazingness for no pennies whatsoever. Spread the word and come get your pop here.
