If you’ve not got your head around our Free Track Friday segment just yet, here’s how it works. Every Friday afternoon/evening, we bring you a raft of fab free and legal downloads that have been sent to us from artists and bands from across the world. Some of them may be very pop, some of them may be other. But each and every one of them is completely free and always fully sanctioned by the artists themselves. So for another #FreeTrackFriday… Downloading finger at the ready…
• TOKYO DENMARK SWEDEN : Lights Off
Sydney outfit Tokyo Denmark Sweden kick things off this week with the first single to be lifted from their forthcoming self-titled EP. Though they only formed late last year, the band is already starting to make waves through the community radio sphere and at Triple J. ‘Lights Off’ is a fab little indie-pop number, swimming with synths that we reckon you’re going to love having in your collection. Fabulously, you can grab a free download of the track right HERE.
• LUMI : Taste Of Life
According to the band’s Aussie publicists, ‘Lumi’ means “snow” in Estonian. What it also means, however, is a band straight from the streets of Beirut who have created what’s been described as being like The Cardigans’ ‘Love Fool’ for the 21st century. That in itself can’t be a bad thing and with remixes by the likes of Yolanda Be Cool and Ajax in the bag, the Lumi story is about to be spread far and wide. Brilliantly, the Ajax remix (to be commercially released as part of an EP next month) is being offered up here for free download and we think you’re going to love it. You might want to get across it HERE.
• SNEAKER FOX : Italian Spiderman
Melbourne duo Sneaker Fox are DJs Lorne Padman and Duane Morrison – the former an acclaimed DJ playing across the country and across the world and the latter one of the men behind the global club smash ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ by Madison Avenue. Together they’ve combined their talents to create this stomping mostly instrumental dance number, with a variety of spoken word samples. It’s grinding electro and with the Sneaker Fox refix complete, the boys are offering it up for free download. Bag that one HERE.
• TAI : Lose Yourself
German producer Tai Jason has experienced the kind of chart success that some only dream of in their careers, having produced a series of top ten hits and critically acclaimed, commercially successful albums in his homeland. These days, however, he’s been producing a series of club bangers, which are beginning to win praise in clubs across Europe. His latest single ‘Lose Yourself’ has been given a bit of a re-rub by Aussie DJ/producer Craig Williams (whose own EP has just been released HERE) and for a short time, the remix is available for free download. Bag the club banger free HERE.
• JULIA AND THE DEEP SEA SIRENS : Little Surprises
We’ve been told by the powers that be that Canberra native Ms Julia Johnson and her seven piece band The Deep Sea Sirens have been performing together now for seven long years, but it’s through their latest single ‘Little Surprises’ (cover pictured) that the band was ‘Unearthed’ by national broadcaster Triple J. In a wonderful little nod to the past, the band recorded ‘Little Surprises’ to tape, giving it a gorgeous, organic warmth that’s sadly lacking from most current chart hits. But it’s really Julia’s emotive vocal that’s the star here. And lucky you – they’re offering it up as a free download. Catch it HERE.
• SLOW HANDS : Rhabarbarum
As mentioned as part of last week’s Saturday News Wrap, Sydney-based dance label Future Classic is on the verge of releasing their very first compilation album. And they’re doing something a little bit exciting for you to celebrate its forthcoming release. Yes, they’re offering up the album opener ‘Rhabarbarum’ by Slow Hands as a free download. Grab it HERE. The album’s out digitally on Monday September 10.
• DEON YOUNG : Forever Young
And finally this week, New York native Deon Young may have signed a deal with global giant Epic Records, but that hasn’t stopped him from popping out a nine track mixtape which he’s offering up to you as a free download. It serves a the perfect introduction to the affable new star and includes Deon’s cover version of Usher’s rather sexy ‘Climax’.
Get yourself a taste of Deon and download the mixtape away right HERE.
