Our apologies for the lateness of our Free Track Friday this week… Things have been super-busy what with our interviews this week with Aussie pop songstresses Kate Alexa and Ricki-Lee (both of whom have albums out today, don’t you know…). But we’re not letting you down, once again serving up a selection of free and legal downloads in the fifth edition of Free Track Friday. So as they say in the classics (or in this case, every Friday for the last five weeks here on the site)… Downloading finger at the ready…
• MIA DYSON : When The Moment Comes
You are Mia Dyson and you’ve worked your ass off the past decade to be heard on the Australian continent. That work has paid off. People know your name. Writers gush about your whisky-tinged voice and liken you to Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan and the Boss. You’ve headlined shows, played the festivals, cut three records and received plenty of radio play. You’ve been nominated four times for an ARIA, winning one. But there is this dream you’ve had since you were a child; get to America. Tour across the States playing music, soak into the American culture and ultimately, make a lasting record. Well that “lasting record” is called ‘The Moment’ – and it’s released everywhere today (HERE it is on iTunes). To celebrate its release, her altogether amazing publicists have granted us an exclusive download of the lead single ‘When The Moment Comes’. You can grab that from our very own Soundcloud account RIGHT HERE.
• MAGNUS & TIMON : Triangle
French duo Magnus & Timon recently treated their fans to free remixes of both The Temper Trap’s latest single and Gotye’s international smash ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Now, however, they’re throwing the download doors open to their own eagerly anticipated debut single. ‘Triangle’ is six and a half minutes of delicious, edgy instrumental dance goodness which should get them noticed by the major labels. You can grab ‘Triangle’ free right HERE.
• CAT POWER : Cherokee
Singer songwriter Chan Marshall (AKA Cat Power) is on the verge of releasing her first album of new material in siz long years (through Remote Control Records here in Australia) and with the album’s second single ‘Cherokee’ just released, she’s offering up a remix of the track as a free download. You can nab that one right HERE. But that’s not all! Oh no. Chan is still offering up the album’s lead single ‘Ruin’ as a free download too. Bag that HERE. The album ‘Sun’ is out in Australia on Friday August 31.
• EXPATRIATE : Do You Remember
Sydney three piece Expatriate have allowed the lads from Tales In Space to take over the remixing reigns on their latest single ‘Do You Remember’ and the result has been described as “electro-dynamo-pomo-disco rock”. And it’s a pretty good thing too, available as a free download by sharing your email address right HERE. Expatriate are about to embark on three live dates too – Melbourne’s Workers Club on August 22, Brisbane’s Alhambra Lounge on August 24 and Sydney’s FBI Social on August 25.
• THE REFLECTIONS : Summer Days
Though Los Angeles three piece The Reflections might not have been around for very long, they’re certainly going the right way about being noticed, offering up their brand new single ‘Summer Days’ for nothing. Darian Zahedi and Jon Safley have been working with bassist Brady Wills on their upcoming debut album ‘Limerence’, which is due early next year. ‘Summer Days’ is a breezy indie-pop number that blends acoustic guitar with synths and dreamy vocals. It’s altogether likeable. Download for nix HERE.
And that’s your lot for this week’s Free Track Friday! Remember to share this post with your friends. And if you’re thinking of sharing on Twitter, don’t forget to use the #FreeTrackFriday hashtag. There’ll be plenty more for nothing coming up next Friday. In the meantime, have yourself a GREAT weekend.
