‘Frankenweenie’ is the latest animated flick to emerge from the Disney studios. Directed by Tim Burton and based on his 1984 short film of the same name, ‘Frankenweenie’ tells the story of a young boy who decides, after the death of his pet dog Sparky, to bring him back to life. As you do.
But enough about the film and more about its soundtrack ‘Frankenweenie : Unleashed!’, which is being released in early October via Universal Music.
It features a host of big name pop stars, including Passion Pit, Neon Trees and Grouplove, as well as our own Kimbra, who contributes the track ‘With My Hands’.
The highlight from the album, however, is a new song by Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O. The track, entitled ‘Strange Love’, will be included in the final credits in the film.
“My music inspiration came out of the same era of B movie fright film references sprinkled throughout the film,” the singer recently told Rolling Stone magazine. “I went in the direction of exotica and calypso stylistically because it’s quirky, good vibes music of that era and when you throw in a theramin solo it’s a marriage made in heaven. I remember ‘Beetlejuice’ introducing me to the genius of Harry Belafonte’s calypso record so I wanted to give a nod to that too. We ended up with a love song for the end of the film!”
‘Frankenweenie : Unleashed!’ will be unleashed in Australia on Friday October 05.
