We had a little break from Free Track Friday proceedings last week on account of the fact there wasn’t really that much to share! But we’re back to spice up your weekend with more fabulous freebies this week, so as they say in the classics… Downloading finger at the ready… (okay, maybe that’s just us).
• EFTERKLANG : Apples
No, we’d never heard of Efterklang either, but the people at their local record company Remote Control Records certainly have and they’re currently busily promoting the Danish outfit’s latest album ‘Piramida’, which incidentally was released locally today. To celebrate the release of the album, the boys (Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg) are giving away the single ‘Apples’, a warming percussive pop/rock ballad with some interesting instrumentation and a gorgeous vocal. It’s a little left of the mainstream, but it’s altogether gorgeous. Bag it for nothing HERE.
• VISITOR : Coming Home (Vanguard Remix)
Expat Aussie electronic duo Lucas and Kyle (AKA Visitor) must be two of the most generous lads in pop music at the moment. Towards the end of last month, they offered up the Visitor remix of their corking new single ‘Coming Home’ as a free download. And now here towards the end of September, they’re doing it again. This time around it’s the Vanguard Remix that’s getting the giveaway treatment and given ‘Coming Home’ is one of our favourite Aussie pop tracks of 2012 this far, you know you’ll be wanting a slice of the download pie. Get your grubby mitts on it right HERE.
• GIULIETTA : Drunk On Love
Eagle-eyed Rihanna fans will know this track from Ri Ri’s latest album ‘Talk That Talk’. But it’s been covered by Melbourne songstress Giulietta, who we’ve featured a number of times on the site across the past 12 months, including in one of our previous Free Track Friday posts. Stepping away from the full electro production of her usual exploits and away from the slickly produced Rihanna version, here Giulietta strips things right back to a basic piano/vocal track that showcases her strong vocal. It’s gorgeous and it’s free HERE.
• BROCK ZANROSSO : Take It Off
Whatever could young Brock Zanrosso possibly mean by ‘Take It Off’, we wonder?? He’s another performer who’s appeared on this here site a number of times in the past (a couple of them as part of Free Track Friday posts), but we’re giving Brock another little push this week because his new EP ‘Love Kills’ (cover pictured) has hit the local iTunes store (HERE). Lifted from said EP is the track ‘Take It Off’ – a pulsing electro-pop number with futuristic bleeps, beats and the occasional vocoded vocal. It’s quite sexy… and it’s free HERE.
• JULIEN K : We’re Here With You (Craig Williams Remix)
Describing themselves as an “indietronic” outfit, California-based four piece Julien K last week released a deluxe edition of their latest album ‘We’re Here With You’ (also available on the Australian iTunes store HERE). One of the tracks that features on the new version of the album is a remix of the title track by Aussie DJ/producer Craig Williams. It’s a thumping electro number that’ll keep you company on the way to or from the clubs this weekend. Bag it free HERE.
• TALKING HEADS : This Must Be The Place (Viceroy Remix)
Back in 1983, American new wave outfit Talking Heads released a single called ‘This Must Be The Place’. Lifted from their album ‘Speaking In Tongues’, it was the follow-up to their US top ten smash ‘Burning Down The House’ (later covered by Tom Jones & The Caridgans), but failed in its quest to follow its predecessor into the top 50. So with the northern hemisphere summer slowly coming to an end, one of our favourites (San Francisco’s Viceroy) has given the track a bit of a summery spit and polish. And what’s more, he’s offering it up FREE! Grab it HERE.
• SAMPOLOGY : Around The Globe (Scratch 22 Remix)
Brisbane based DJ Sampology (aka Sam Poggioli) has been making quite the name for himself over the last few years, most recently winning praise for his debut long player ‘Doomsday Deluxe’, which was released back in June. The latest single to be poached from the LP is ‘Around The Globe’ and it’s said single that’s been whipped into a “Fela Kuti sampled mix” by Auckland/Berlin outfit Scratch 22. Beyond that, Sampology is offering the remix up as a free download, which you can get your chops around HERE.
So there you are! Dare we say there’s something for everyone in amongst that lot! So share away! Tweet, Facebook and let your friends and loved ones know that Free Track Friday has returned with a vengeance and there are plenty of treats for your weekend that will cost you nothing at all!
Have yourself a sparkling and shiny weekend.
