Adelaide DJ Leah Mencel has scratched and mixed her way to the winner’s podium in the 2012 edition of EMI’s ‘She Can DJ’ competition, held last night at Sydney’s iconic Ivy Hotel.
Launched last year, the competition aims to unearth the very best female DJ talent in the country, signing them to not only a record deal with EMI, but also a weekly set on Austereo’s ‘Party People’, simulcast nationally.
Leah receives both of those prizes, along with a spot on the line-up of the forthcoming Steresonic festivals across the country. She’ll also head to Europe later in the year for networking purposes.
“I’m ecstatic!” Leah said in a statement. “This is the second year that I’ve taken part in She Can DJ, and I worked extremely hard to get here and wanted to win this amazing prize. It just goes to show, hard work really does pay off. I can’t wait to see what the next twelve months will bring!”
Last year’s winner MINX premiered her forthcoming new single ‘Night To Remember’, which features the vocals of former Scarlett Belle songstress Reigan Derry.
