• The lads from British superstar outfit One Direction have unveiled the official cover image for their forthcoming single ‘Live While We’re Young’ (pictured). The track is the first to be lifted from the boys’ new album ‘Take Me Home’, which is due at retail in early November. A limited edition physical ‘Live While We’re Young’ CD single is due for release in early October.
• Sydney outfit 5 Seconds Of Summer have been announced as the support act for the forthcoming tour by Hot Chelle Rae and Cher Lloyd. The gents, with more than 50,000 Facebook and 100,000 Twitter fans behind them, will open proceedings for all shows except the Perth date on November 01.
• Brisbane indie outfit The Art Of Sleeping has inked a deal with Dew Process. The five piece have ridden a wave of success across the past year, helped along by heavy airplay of their single ‘Empty Hands’ by national broadcaster Triple J. The band’s first EP for their new label is forthcoming later in the year.
• Example’s single ‘Say Nothing’ is one of a number of new tracks serviced to Australian media this week. The track, produced by Dirty South’ is the first taster of Example’s forthcoming album ‘The Evolution Of Man’, which is due for release down under on Friday November 16. Example will visit Australia in November for this year’s Stereosonic Festival.
• Also doing the rounds at media this week are the new Usher single ‘Numb’, Hot Chip’s ‘How Do You Do?’, the new DIG single ‘Stranger Talking’ and The Trouble With Templeton’s ‘Six Months In A Cast’. • Boy & Bear’s backing vocalist Tim Hart has been announced as the support act for the forthcoming Lady Antebellum tour. The band kicks off their Australian visit with a sold out show at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre next Tuesday, before taking in dates in Brisbane and Sydney. Tim will take part in all shows except the October 03 date at the Sydney Opera House.
• Seattle-based rockers Soundgarden have unveiled their first studio album in 15 years. First single from the new LP (the aptly titled ‘Been Away Too Long’) is set to hit digital retail on September 27, with the new album, entitled ‘King Animal’ due for release on Friday November 12.
• Perth outfit Birds Of Tokyo has announced the upcoming release of a new EP entitled ‘This Fire’. According to the team at EMI, the EP represents change, renewal and a new start for the band, who’ve spent the past five years slowly growing in stature to the point where they’re now one of the country’s hottest acts. The ‘This Fire’ EP is set to provide fans a glimpse into the future and the March release of their as-yet-untitled new album and will be released physically, digitally and on limited edition vinyl on Friday October 05.
• Guitarist/singer Gary Clark Jr has been added to the list of Big Day Out performers who’ve announced January sideshows. He’s set to play headline dates in both Sydney and Melbourne – at the Factory Theatre on January 19 and the Corner Hotel on January 22 respectively. In the meantime, the singer’s debut full-length album ‘Blak And Blu’ will be released in Australia on Friday October 19.
• After debuting at No.2 last week, Irish outfit The Script has ascended to No.1 on this week’s British singles chart with their track ‘Hall Of Fame’ (featuring Will.i.am). Last week’s No.1 (Ne-Yo’s ‘Let Me Love You’) drops to No.3, while former ‘X Factor’ starlet Amelia Lily debuts in the No.2 position with ‘You Bring Me Joy’. Flo Rida’s ‘I Cry’ edges into the top ten, while Tulisa’s new single (which isn’t a patch on her debut) just misses the top ten.
• And The xx has debuted atop the British albums chart with their new long player ‘Coexist’. The top three were all taken up by debuts, with The Script’s ‘#3’ coming in at #2 and Bob Dylan’s ‘Tempest’ debuting at No.3. Coldplay’s album ‘Mylo Xyloto’ edged back into the top 10, while lil’ Joe McElderry’s new album ‘This Is What I Believe’ debuted at No.8. Pet Shop Boys’ new album ‘Elysium’ also got some top ten love, premiering at No.9.
