ETERNAL : Stay
The ’90s were a great time for the pop / R&B hybrid. En Vogue, Salt N Pepa and in 1993 came Eternal. Four English lasses with a cracking debut in ‘Stay’. Peaking at No.4 in the UK No.3 in Australia in 1994 (even reaching No.19 in the US months later), ‘Stay’ is a power ballad wrapped up in a slow jam funk. The video…did someone say oversized jeans and flannel jackets? Eternal went on to have further hits with ‘Power Of A Woman’, ‘Don’t You Love Me’ and ‘I Am Blessed’ but nothing came as close to this sharp and instant first single.

Then the white one left and it was girl power with ‘Power of a Woman’ in ’95… wait a minute… Did Spice Girls steal ‘Girl Power’ from Eternal?!?!?
