It’s fast become one of your favourite features on this here pop blog… our weekly gift to you of fabulous free tunes, sent to us throughout the week. Well we’re back once again with another slew of fine freebies, so downloading fingers at the ready, here’s this week’s Free Track Friday!
• CHIC : Everybody Dance (Zimmer Remix)
Right, so you can’t really go wrong with a bit of a disco classic – especially when it’s been given a remixed update to get you bopping into the weekend. Paris based DJ & Producer Zimmer has included his remix of the classic Chic number in his sets for the best part of a year, but now he’s setting it free into the ether, allowing all and sundry to download it for no pennies. For the purists, it remains quite faithful to the original. For those yet to discover the track’s delights, get on board. Free HERE.
TUAC : Higher Ground
We don’t know quite what it was about Brooklyn native Tuac that resonated with us, but this track ‘Higher Ground’ is entirely likeable. It’s funky, soul-infused pop with more than a nod to the gospel world. ‘Higher Ground’ is the lead single and title track from the singer’s forthcoming five track EP, due for release in the US on November 06. It contains a feel-good, positive message about helping your brothers and sisters when they’re down. Brilliantly, you have the chance to nab said track for absolutely nothing. Give it a listen and bag it up HERE.
• WARREN NOMI : (They Long To Be) Close To You
New York-based singer songwriter Warren Nomi is probably better knows on these here pages for his dance/pop/club type numbers, but in the wake of the sad passing of legendary songwriter Hal David last month, Warren decided to pay tribute by recording this cover version of the Carpenters’ classic ‘(They Long To Be) Close To You’. And before you recoil in horror at the thought of a whipped up dancefloor version of the single, relax… It remains incredibly faithful to the original and allows Warren to showcase his vocal with his only aid being a piano. It’s free HERE.
• DAVE : Red Eye
More than anything, we think we just love the fact that there’s a band called ‘Dave’. Anyways… Dave is a four piece outfit hailing from Perth and after spending the last couple of years locked away from the world working on their music, they’ve burst forth with this, their debut single. ‘Red Eye’ is a little bit indie, it’s a little bit Brit-pop, possibly a little ’80s, and all totally infectious and it’s been produced by Mark McEntee of The Divinyls. Awesomely, to celebrate its impending release, the band is setting it free into the world for a limited time. So best you catch the Dave wave and surf to THIS SITE to get your free download.
And that’s your lot for this week… Just the quartet of freebies! Of course, if you’re a pop performer or are in a pop band and are offering free downloads, we’d love to know about it. Shoot us through an email and we’ll look at featuring you in a forthcoming edition of Free Track Friday.
As always, have yourself a brilliant weekend.
