For our money, young Melanie Amaro was one of the standouts of last year’s American version of ‘The X Factor’. Right from the get go when she performed a spine-tingling version of Beyonce’s ‘Listen’, the judges knew she was something special and she went on to take out the competition, subsequently signing with Simon Cowell’s label Simco.
Now comes the single ‘Don’t Fail Me Now’, which is being released as part of an a-side/b-side double header with ‘Love Me Now’ – the latter aiming to capture the hearts of the country’s urban lovers with big soaring diva vocals, the former a chart-ready dance/pop hybrid that sounds like everything else on the market. ‘Don’t Fail Me Now’ for us sounds like one of those two-a-penny chart songs that could be sung by anyone – and everyone. It’s likeable enough, mind, but for us it’s not a patch on ‘Love Me Now’ and Melanie’s above this.
