It’s an idea which has been bandied about for around five years (originally to be called ‘Our Sound’), but it seems that this year they’ve got it all together and are ready to launch the Asia-Pacific’s answer to the Eurovision Song Contest.
Devised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and to be held in Seoul, the ‘ABU Song Festival’ aims to showcase tracks from across the region, bringing together a dozen competitors from as far west as Afghanistan, as far north as Japan and South Korea and as far south as the land down under.
Australia will be represented at the inaugural event by Havana Brown, who’ll perform her international smash ‘We Run The Night’. But unlike the Eurovision competition, a panel of experts from across the Asia-Pacific will vote on the top three placegetters.
Brilliantly, the team from SBS are set to broadcast the event locally later this month.
Though it will be beamed into millions of homes across the region, here in Australia the telecast will be fronted by PopAsia host Jamaica dela Cruz. There’ll be performer profiles, music videos, backstage interviews and much more.
Catch the inaugural ABU Song Festival’ on SBS One on Sunday October 28 from 9:30pm.
