Reece Mastin has enjoyed the kind of year that most people could only ever dream about. After winning last year’s ‘X Factor’, he’s gone on to top the charts with two of his singles, has achieved multiple platinum success, released two top five albums and worked with some of the biggest names in the business.
It’s been a while since we dragged out our last Q&A, so to celebrate the release of his new album ‘Beautiful Nightmare’, we decided to pop a series of questions to Australia’s Lil’ Rocker. Here are his (albeit brief) responses…;
Q : In how many ways has your life changed post ‘The X Factor’?
A : Everything has completely changed, but for the good.
Q. Have there been any downsides to the journey so far?
A : No, not at all. Everything has been a learning curve.
Q. Tell us about your latest single ‘Rock Star’. It’s a slight change in direction for you – to a more rocky sound. Is that where you’d like to head stylistically?
A : Yeah, rock is always the way to go.
Q. What made you choose the name ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ for your album and what’s the meaning behind it?
A : It’s dark and sexy and plays on your mind.
Q. Who have you worked with on the new album?
A : Benji Madden, Matt Gerrard, Cassius D Kalb, Ilan from The Potbelleez etc.
Q. And what can we expect from it stylistically?
A : Everything rock, but fused with all genres.
Q. What’s your favourite track on the new album and why?
A : ‘Stars’, ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ and ‘Addictive’.
Q. You’re very active on social media. How much do you think that’s played a part in your success?
A : Not. It’s a great with to stay in touch.
Q. How important is image to you?
A : I like to look good. Haha. But music comes first.
Q. You’ve just announced the national tour. What can your lil’ rockers expect?
A : Everything it was last year, but bigger.
Q. If you could have any five people in the world around your dinner table (alive or deceased), who would you choose?
A : Steve Tyler, Michael Jackson, Slash, Kurt Cobain, Cher Lloyd.
Q. And in closing, do you have a special message for your fans so that they’ll head right out there and buy your album?
A : I love all my Lil’ Rockers. Hope to see you on tour singing along.

Great questions Auspop. But Reece didn’t seem like he cared. Very short responses.
