Okay, so we’re super-late with our Free Track Friday post this week, but here it is anyway… once again offering up a selection of fine tunes from across the globe, all 100% legal, all 100% free. So while we prepare to expand your musical horizons slightly, you prepare to get your downloading finger at the ready…
• PVT : Nightfall
Sydney outfit PVT are about to shuttle their way around the country playing the support role on the forthcoming Gotye tour, but before all that takes place, their want their burgeoning fanbase to get an earload of their new single ‘Nightfall’, the first to be lifted from their new album ‘Homosapien’ (due early in the new year). And they’re doing so by giving the track away as a free download. Describing their sound as a blend of rock, electro and “noise”, on paper ‘Nightfall’ might not seem like it’d appeal to our more pop-leaning readers, but give it a listen, because it’s rather commercial and rather fine. Listen and download HERE.
• DUNE VIA SPENDER : Black Sand
If you’re a regular visitor to this here site, you’ll no doubt be aware that Melbourne songstress Jade Macrae is now playing the live circuit under the new moniker Dune. With a live show coming up later this month supported by fellow Melbourne outfit Spender, she’s teamed up with the three piece for a captivating four and a half minute piece of edgy alternative ambling electro-pop. Lots to like here. Catch Dune and Spender at Melbourne’s Toff In Town on Saturday November 24. Dune also plays Upstairs at The Beresford on Friday November 23 (without Spender). Get your mitts on the free deliciousness HERE.
• CHRISTO JONES : Anyway
Another little alt-pop gem out of Sydney, this time from singer songwriter and loop-master Christo Jones. Using a series of vocal loops, percussion and live instrumentation, Christo has constructed a song that’s interesting, alternative, definitive, lush and altogether alluring. His live shows are no doubt mesmerizing. Staggeringly, this is Christo’s debut single – and he wants to set it free into the ether, so we’re lending a hand to make sure it gets heard. Listen and download FREE from his official website HERE.
• SUPER MAGIC HATS : Wind
From sunny Sydney to marvellous Melbourne, here’s an intriguing little quasi-intrumental piece by up and coming independent artist Super Magic Hats. Also known as Rob Masterton, Super Magic Hats, like Christo (above), is right into his sound experimentation, so has created new single ‘Wind’ using barely-there vocals, analogue instrumentation, vintage drum machines and deliciously crisp production. We’re really liking it too. Best of all, Rob’s giving the tune away either as a free download (for the cheapskates) OR you can name your price. Whichever you choose, let your curiosity get the better of you HERE.
• DAVID DI MARCO : Dublin
It’s hard to believe that ‘Dublin’ is actually the debut single for Brisbane singer songwriter David Di Marco. Hard to believe because the track is so slick, polished and assured. Available as a free download from the Triple J Unearthed site (HERE), ‘Dublin’ provides the first taster of David’s forthcoming debut EP, which is due early in the new year. To celebrate the release of the track, David’s performing three headline shows from later this month… Byron Bay Brewery on November 30, Sol Bar in Maroochydore on December 01 and Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane on December 02.
