Another week has rolled swiftly by and we’re now literally eight and a half weeks ’til the end of the year. Seriously. However, it’s Friday – and you know by now that Fridays mean just one thing… Free Tracks! Yes indeed, we’re back to fill your evening with a slew of fab freebies, just ripe for your weekend listening pleasure. So let’s not dilly dally… Download finger at the ready…
• BUCHANAN : When The Sun Comes Round Again
We featured Melbourne four piece Buchanan on the site once before. At the time, they’d been scoring some airplay on Triple J for their then single ‘Teachers’. We thought then that their stuff was seriously impressive. And with this new single ‘When The Sun Comes Round Again’, we can’t help but re-iterate that the boys are on their way to becoming the next big thing. This is seriously good pop music. Totally radio friendly, totally slick and polished and totally lifted from their recently completed debut album, which is to see the light of day in the new year. Our favourite freebie of the week hands down. Get it HERE.
• COLOUR BOMB : On The Run
Here’s a startlingly good piece of timeless-sounding pop out of Melbourne. Duo Colour Bomb (James Saunders and Tom Whitty) are “inspired by the likes of classic song-writers such as Billy Joel and David Bowie” and one listen to their latest single ‘On The Run’ and it’s not difficult to hear their influences. A lush sounding mid-tempo adult pop track, it’s already garnering some high profile support, with Gotye himself stating of ‘On The Run’, “Beguiling track in its entirety”. The boys have a debut album coming early in the new year, but for now you can nab this track for nix right HERE.
• KSSR : Passenger
Really digging this fab new tune for Aussie artist KSSR (aka Kiss Reid). It’s driving electronic pop complete with distorted vocals, plenty of blips and beats and attitude. It’s a world away from his previous incarnation as a singer in a punk band, but we’re liking it lots. The track’s already impacting at radio ahead of its digital release next Friday. Best you get on board as a ‘Passenger’ now and don’t get left behind. It’s free HERE.
• THE PRESETS : Ghosts (Senor Coconut Remix)
We must admit we’ve lost count of how many times remixes of The Presets have appeared in our Free Track Friday now, but heck, when the team at Modular keep giving them away, who are we not to feature them on the site? Yes, the latest freebie from Camp Preset is the Senor Coconut remix of their latest single ‘Ghosts’. Beginning with a delightful tropical beach soundscape, the mix soon dives into tribal beats and grunts, chimes of marimba… Close your eyes and it’s like being on a beach in FNQ. Free, it is, HERE.
• BLEEDING KNEES CLUB : Let It Go Mixtape
Gold Coast outfit Bleeding Knees Club are about to hit the road for a national tour, which kicks off tomorrow night at The Zoo in Brisbane. Along for the ride in the support role will be Sydney outfit Step-Panther and a number of other artists. To celebrate the tour, the band has put together this short little mixtape of some of the music you’ll be hearing at the live shows across the country – and they’ve decided to give it away as a little freebie. Best you head HERE so you can get your grubby little mitts on it before the tour starts!
• SPIRIT FACES : Feels Like Nothing
Alright, this little track out of Sydney is a little different from the pop norm of some of the tracks above. It’s incredibly downtempo, organic and hushed alternative pop/rock. ‘Feels Like Nothing’ is the first track lifted from Spirit Faces’ forthcoming debut EP entitled ‘Momentum’. Inspired by the likes of John Frusciante, ‘Feels Like Nothing’ feels like a good quality band providing the laid back soundtrack to your evening in the corner of your favourite cosy pub. And the track is free while stocks last right HERE.
And that’s your lot for this week… We’ll be back next Friday with another selection of tasty tunes for no pennies down. We’ll help spice up your weekend if it’s the last thing we do! Speaking of, have a GREAT weekend!
