Though we fear he’ll never again reach the lofty commercially-successful heights of his debut ‘Grace Kelly’, we’ve still got a soft spot for British-based singer songwriter Mika. And his new single ‘Underwater’ is a gorgeous little reminder that firstly, he’s still very much on top of his creative game and secondly, there’s love in the air.
Setting sail through a clip of whimsy, Mika seemingly has to battle many a storm on his fictitious journey, but he’s found a light (presumably symbolising the love) and he’ll do everything within his power to protect it. So when said light falls overboard, Mika plunges in after it, quickly discovering that the light is allowing him to breathe… ‘Underwater’.
It’s a bit cute. And there are some divine underwater shots.

* Correction : Just realised I said I put the CD back, when it isn’t even out yet ;) I saw the CD listed in your NEW RELEASE SCHEDULE, and had quickly checked the tracklisting
online a while ago. Back then I closed the webpage down as soon as I saw some NOW track duplicates.
By the way… it was good to see your website being singled out on the NOW facebook page; because I know I find your website very interesting and informative.

Anonymous #1 here. Thanks very much for your reply auspOp :)
I understand now. My thought then was that Warner should release their own compilation set before XMas. But then I thought to check out the recent 100% HITS SUMMER, and it looks like they have?
Although, to me, it seems to be a very bad marketing move using the 100% HITS branding as they have destroyed its credibility over recent years. For example on the 2012 WINTER edition 12 of the 17 song tracklist were on the prior NOW Autumn. I hardly glanced at the new SUMMER tracklisting thinking it would be yet another rehash – immediately saw the Veronica and Marina&theDiamond songs from NOW Spring, and put the CD back down.
If you cant get someone like me, who owns all the 100% Hits #1-#33 CDs, all the NOW and SoFresh compilations, to even look properly at the tracklisting without expecting it to be a dud you aren’t aiming very high.

Hey Ian,
‘NOW’ was always a joint venture between EMI and Warner, just as ‘So Fresh’ has always been a joint venture between Sony and Universal.

Or perhaps, Warner is no longer INVITED to be involved???
So, who actually “owns” the NOW brand? Is it EMI or Warner or was it a joint venture?
It will be interesting to see what happens with the So Fresh & NOW compilations in the future after the Universal takeover of EMI…

Hey Anonymous,
We’ve been through the heartache of putting together compilation albums ourselves in a past existence and it’s not easy. The single you mentioned by Mika would be too new, Bruno Mars is Warner (and they’ve had nothing to do with the new NOW compile), ditto Marina.
‘Say Nothing’ might have worked.
NOW was for ten years a Warner/EMI product, but now EMI has been purchased by Universal, we suspect Warner no longer wishes to be involved.

I put a comment on the NOW facebook page that perhaps, instead of including a number of repeat songs that already appear on currently released SoFresh albums, they should have included things like:
Mika – Underwater Love
Bruno Mars – Locked Out of Heaven
Marina & The Diamonds – How To Be A Heartbreaker
Example – Say Nothing
or even a RubyFrost track (an artist that I first heard on this website, is a Universal artist, and yet I had to import from JBHiFi NewZealand to get a copy)
