Our penultimate pop song of 2012 came to us right at the beginning of the year – and though it (like many of its predecessors in our top ten) was criminally ignored by virtually all commercial radio, Ladyhawke’s altogether brilliant ‘Black, White And Blue’ has held its lustre for us all the way through the year.
To be honest, we weren’t massively enamoured with the track at first listen, but after just a few plays, it beguiled us and stayed with us as loyally as a close friend. All blips, bleeps, scratches and just a hint of rock guitar, the track was the perfect icy cool dessert to her 2008 eponymously-titled debut.
The clip? According to Pip, it was based on the 1978 movie ‘Eyes Of Laura Mars’ – a thriller starring Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones – so it was all retro-like, with ’70s embellishments, crimped hair and just a hint of intrigue.
Yes, we love it still. Hence it’s our No.2 pop song of 2012. Ladyhawke’s ‘Black, White And Blue’.
