How long’s it been, for goodness sake!? It’s been more than a month, that’s for sure, since we last brought you a little bundle of free and legal tracks for your weekend listening pleasure. So before the man in the red suit hits, we thought we’d drag out our last Free Track Friday for 2012. So one last time for the year… Downloading fingers at the ready, please…
• PHIL HANCOCK : Sugar Rush
Brisbane pop singer Phil Hancock is back with a brand new single – and if you like your pop sweet, fluffy and sugar-laden, then we think ‘Sugar Rush’ is going to be ever so up your street. It’s dance/pop that Phil describes as being about the “sugary highs of meeting someone and your first experiences with them”. The poor subjects in the video (including Phil himself) are subject to a barrage of attack from some of your favourite sweet treats and if the song’s sweet enough for you, you might like for it to land in your inbox by clicking HERE.
• YOUNG DREAMS : Fog Of War (Lemonade Remix)
We first made mention of Norwegian outfit Young Dreams back at the end of October when their Aussie label Modular was kind enough to be giving away their latest single ‘Fog Of War’. Now, however, they’re back with a remix of said track – and once again it’s going for a song. The original was “filled with sunshiney synthesisers, sweeping strings and joyous vocals” and the remix continues the trend, upping the tempo, looping the vocals and popping in some percussion. And again, is FREE! So get your mitts on this one HERE.
• VARIOUS ARTISTS : Future Classic vs Laneway Festival Mixtape
To celebrate the upcoming Laneway Festivals and the fact that a number of Future Classic’s artists are on next year’s bill (including recent chart darling Flume, whose album debuted at No.2 on the ARIA charts last month and has since gone gold), the gang at Future Classic has put together a rather classy one hour plus mixtape of tunes one might expect to hear on the stages of Laneway 2013. Included within the mix (apart from Flume) are the likes of Chet Faker, Kings Of Convenience, Jessie Ware, High Highs, Holy Others and many more. Get the tracklist lowdown and the free download HERE.
• THE REFLECTIONS : Disconnected
This is the second time that we’ve featured Los Angeles based outfit The Reflections as part of our Free Track Friday segment. The last time was back in the middle of August when they were offering up their aptly-titled ‘Summer Days’ for nothing. They’re back again, however, with the alt-pop goodness of ‘Disconnected’, a rumbling, rollicking pop tune with a stab or two of electric guitar thrown in to keep the indie kids happy. It’s the second single to be lifted from their forthcoming album, which is due next year. Not only can you bag the single free, but a remix too. Do it HERE.
• FAT FREDDY’S DROP : Silver & Gold
New Zealand outfit Fat Freddy’s Drop were extremely generous in the middle of last month by gifting this track to their fandom free of charge. The funk/blues/reggae-filled ‘Silver & Gold’ is the first taste of the band’s new album ‘Blackbird’, which will be released early in the new year via Remote Control Records. They’ll be on our shores in March next year playing the Byron Bay Blues & Roots Festival, so you can get a taste of what to expect for no dollars down right HERE.
• LIZ WOOD : Fall Again
And again, not the first time that we’ve mentioned this artist on the site as part of our Free Track Friday segment. US singer songwriter Liz Wood dropped her more recent EP entitled ‘Into My Own’ back in October this year and to keep there interest piqued in the project, she’s decided to offer up track two from the four tracker free of charge. The opening stanzas sound a little like Sixpence None The Richer’s hit ‘Kiss Me’ and if you like your pop more guitar-based with a female singer-songwriter vibe, you may just like this. Besides, it’s free HERE.
So there you go. A long time coming, but something new for your weekend with our Free Track Friday segment.
Enjoy your festive season and no doubt we’ll return with more fabulous freebies early in 2013!
