We completely missed this altogether beguiling single from Victorian five piece Gold Fields when it dropped a smidgen before Christmas. Based in the regional city of Ballarat (site of the Eureka Stockage and the Victorian gold rush – hence the band’s name), Gold Fields have been working feverishly on their debut album ‘Black Sun’, which is due to be released on March 08.
Stylistically, it sounds a little like The Temper Trap’s amazeballs single ‘Sweet Disposition’ in the verses (no bad thing), while there’s a positive, floating, uptempo chorus that gives us this indication that this band knows very well what it’s going to take to get their tunes heard on commercial stations across the country. Very stylish.
We’re ordering a metal detector, ’cause we have the feeling these Gold Fields will prove to be very fruitful indeed.
