To say US musician Macklemore had an incredible 2012 would be quite the understatement. His breakthrough single ‘Thrift Shop’ has remained atop the ARIA singles chart for six consecutive weeks, this week becoming the first No.1 single of 2013. And though accreditations for ‘Thrift Shop’ are yet to be officially updated, a Warner spokesperson confirmed with us this afternoon that the single is “well on its way to surging past five times platinum”.
Now, however, after languishing in the lower reaches of the chart for the past five weeks, it looks like Macklemore’s “other” single ‘Same Love’ is now starting to gel with the Australian public.
A fresh push on the track, which has risen from No.63 to No.39 on this week’s ARIA singles chart, is expected shortly.
‘Same Love’ is currently sitting at No.11 on the Australian iTunes store and the official video (below) has been causing quite the stir online, notching up more than 11 million views since it was uploaded in early October.
As the title suggests, it’s all about equality, love and making sure that every human being is afforded the same rights, regardless of the colour of their skin, their race, sexuality or who they choose to love.
