• Los Angeles outfit Haim (left) have been crowned winners of the BBC’s ‘Sound Of 2013′ poll, with a panel of influential bloggers, broadcasters and editors across the UK believing the sibling trio is headed for big things this year. The girls’ single ‘Don’t Save Me’, released in November, serves as a precursor to the band’s debut album, due this year.
• Up and coming British singer Conor Maynard has uploaded an acoustic cover version of Swedish House Mafia’s latest single ‘Don’t You Worry Child’. The song, available to view HERE will be released as part of Conor’s ‘Animal’ EP on Friday January 18.
• The gang at Fall Festival has expressed their support to the people of Tasmania by donating $10,000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. Though their farm was evacuated at the height of the fire storm last week, their property remains untouched, though others nearby weren’t so lucky. They’re encouraging people to donate to the appeal via THIS LINK and will hold further fundraisers in the weeks ahead.
• Perth outfit Sun City will kick off their 2013 with a series of live shows. After performing at Summadayze in their home town over the weekend, they’re heading east, with five shows locked in – free shows Upstairs at The Beresford on Friday night and The Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on Saturday, a gig at Adelaide’s Rocket Bar on January 18, Melbourne’s Vault 8 on January 25 and a new show at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi on Saturday January 26. A new video is due soon.
• British ‘X Factor’ winner James Arthur remains in the top spot on the UK singles chart this week with his version of ‘Impossible’, with latest singles for Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift moving into the top five. Rihanna’s ‘Stay’ has moved into the top ten (No.7) and the new Calvin Harris track ‘Drink From The Bottle’ is bulleting.
• And on the British albums chart, Calvin Harris can’t put a foot wrong, with his album ’18 Months’ returning to the No.1 position. Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ moves up – to No.3, with albums by Jake Bugg and Fun. also moving into the ten.
