Australia has a new global superstar. Gotye, who mesmerised the planet with his international smash ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ has swept the pool at this year’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Not only did he pick up the awards for Best Group/Duo Performance (with Kimbra) and Best Alternative Music Album, but he bagged the night’s most coveted prize – Record Of The Year.
In doing so, he becomes only the second Australian to win the award – and the first in almost 40 years. The last time Record Of The Year belonged to an Australian was back in 1975 when Olivia Newton-John picked up the award for the Peter Allen co-penned ‘I Honestly Love You’.
Of the wins, the singer said, “I’m grateful to everyone at home for their constant support. It’s been amazing and I don’t take it for granted. I’m particularly pleased that my album ‘Making Mirrors’ has been acknowledged as well as the single. Hopefully this means there’s a place for adventurous, interesting music out there – and for completely silly music too!”
But Gotye wasn’t the only big winner on the night. Fun. also had a brilliant Grammys, picking up the award for Best New Artist as well as Song Of The Year for their smash hit ‘We Are Young’.
Skrillex bagged two, Kelly Clarkson took home Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Stronger’ and Adele returned to the scene of last year’s triumph, picking up the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance for ‘Set Fire To The Rain’.
Mumford & Sons concluded the ceremony by picking up album of the year for their LP ‘Babel’.

I wouldn’t exactly call Gotye a global superstar. One hit song that’s all it’s been so far
