For one tiny, fleeting moment, we thought perhaps that country superstar trio Lady Antebellum might have headed down the cover version route with their new single ‘Downtown’. But it turns out that no, it’s not a cover version of the Petula Clark classic, it’s a highly original track that’s already making an impact in the band’s native US, where it’s so far peaked inside the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and top ten on the Country Songs chart.
‘Downtown’, which was serviced to local media this week, serves as the lead single from the band’s just-announced album ‘Golden’, which is due to drop at retail in May. And with more than 200,000 copies of their albums sold here in Australia, along with “almost triple platinum sales” of their smash ‘Need You Now’, there’s bound to be plenty of interest in the new material from their local fans.
‘Golden’ is due for release in the US on May 07. No confirmed in-store date for Australia just yet.
