• She recently returned to the stage that made her a household name in the United States, performing her brand new single ‘Tonight’ alongside Ne-Yo on the evergreen ‘American Idol’. Now it’s seemingly Australia’s turn to get in on the Jessica Sanchez action, with Universal Music servicing the single to local media late this afternoon.
• It’s been a slightly quieter week on the servicing front, given the upcoming Easter holidays, but tracks delivered this week include the new Evermore track ‘Hey My Love’, The Saturdays’ single ‘What About Us’, Chiddy Bang’s ‘Talking To Myself’ and Jonny Taylor’s ‘You’ll Never Break Me’. • Sydney outfit Jinja Safari will hit the road in May in support of the release of their self-titled debut album. They’ll kick things off with a double date at The Toff In Town in Melbourne on May 15 and 16 before visiting Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Sydney. The album drops at retail on Friday May 17.
• He’s better known as TV’s Doctor House, but British actor Hugh Laurie will follow up his 2011 debut ‘Let Them Talk’ with a brand new album in May. ‘Didn’t It Rain’ (cover pictured above) reportedly ventures further afield from the jazz-inspired surrounds of New Orleans and into the more blues-infused sounds of middle America. The album will drop in Australia on Friday May 10.
• Irish outfit The Script has unveiled the artists who’ll provide support on their upcoming Australian tour. Irish acoustic trio The Original Rudeboys are first up on the bill for the tour, which kicks off in Perth next Wednesday. Up and coming Aussie songstress Sinead Burgess is also locked in. The band is set to play four shows only – in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – before jetting across to New Zealand for a one-off Auckland show.
• The Rubens have sold out their first shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with Frontier Touring announcing second dates in each of the East Coast cities. They’ll now play a second show at The Tivoli in Brisbane on April 28, a second Melbourne show at the Forum Theatre on May 11 and a second Enmore Theatre show in Sydney – on May 25. Tickets for all are on sale now.
• The Saturdays have scored their first ever British No.1 single with their new track ‘What About Us’ this week. They knocked off Justin Timberlake’s ‘Mirrors’, which falls to No.2. In fact, there’s little movement in the UK top ten this week, but Taylor Swift is knocking on the door of more top ten success in Britain, with her latest single ’22’ moving up from No.26 to No.11.
• The British albums chart belongs to Justin Timberlake, whose album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ premieres at No.1. Suede scores the only other top ten debut of the week – down at No.10 – with Billy Bragg’s newbie entering the countdown at No.13.
• It’s another week atop the US Billboard Hot 100 for Baauer’s ‘Harlem Shake’, with the top three unchanged. Justin Timberlake’s ‘Suit & Tie’ moves up to No.4 at the expense of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’. Demi Lovato’s ‘Heart Attack’ moves into the top 20.
• And he may have had the No.1 mantle last week, but Luke Bryan’s already been bumped from the top spot – by Bon Jovi’s album ‘What About Now’. David Bowie premieres at No.2 with ‘The Next Day’, leaving Luke down in the No.3 position for his second week. Passion’s LP ‘Let The Future Begin’ is in at No.4, Mindless Behaviour’s ‘All Around The World’ debuts at No.6, Eric Clapton’s ‘Old Sock’ enters at No.7 and the ‘Sound City : Real To Reel’ soundtrack premieres at No.8.
