Hot on the heels of last month’s live performances across the East Coast and the unveiling of her latest single ‘Knock You Out’ back in February, Sydney based songstress Amali Ward has today confirmed the forthcoming release of her debut album ‘Back In Time’.
First rising to prominence through the 2004 edition of ‘Australian Idol’, Amali has worked tirelessly to hone her craft across the almost ten years since.
A string of singles, vocal collaborations and songwriting allowed her performance to reach a level that saw her win the International John Lennon Songwriting Contest last year and the Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award earlier this year.
The skill set Amali has gathered since 2004 is on full display on ‘Back In Time’.
“Going into this album I felt I had to define myself as an artist so I made a conscious decision to try and talk about things that actually mean something to me,” she said in a statement. “‘Back In Time’ addresses some heavy topics, but at the same time it doesn’t beat you over the head with them, and there’s some lighthearted stuff on the record too.
“I was lucky enough to have most of John Mayer’s touring band play on the album. These guys are incredible musicians who have played for pretty much every big name artist you can think of! So it was just insane to have them all jamming in a room in LA to songs I had written back home.”
Amali’s debut album ‘Back In Time’ will hit Aussie retailers on Friday May 03.
