The Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final is now less than five weeks away and here at auspOp, we’re once again in the midst of our yearly look at the entries who’ll be vying for the European vote.
Yes, the pop-loving eyes of Europe will be firmly affixed on the Swedish city of Malmö, as 39 countries from across the region compete for the most coveted prize in music – the Eurovision Song Contest winner’s trophy.
As always, the competition is split into three finals; the two semi finals (to be held on May 14 and 16) and the grand final (on May 18), in which the victorious countries from the two semi-finals will line up alongside the host nation Sweden and the “big five” of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
In part ten of our look at the Eurovision 2013 entries, we’re taking a look at a familiar name in the pop sphere who’ll be taking the stage for Germany.
CASCADA : Glorious
We feel like we’re going over old ground with this one, because the new single from German dance/pop outfit Cascada has already been featured on the pages of this lil’ pop oracle. As we mentioned at the time, “Cascada, led by singer Natalie Horler, achieved top five success in Australia back in late 2009 with their single ‘Evacuate The Dancefloor’, but they’ve achieved further top five success across Europe, which means a number of countries will know exactly who they’re voting for.
While ‘Glorious’ isn’t bad, it’s so similar in a number of ways to Loreen’s 2012 winning entry ‘Euphoria’… even the titles are sonically spookily similar.”
Brilliantly for them, Germany won’t have to compete in either of the semi-finals. As one of the ‘big five’, they’ll sail straight on through to the Grand Final on Saturday May 18, where they’ll compete for the ultimate crown.
