It’s now less than three weeks ’til the pop-loving eyes of Europe will be focussed on the Swedish city of Malmö for the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. And here at auspOp, we’re continuing the count down to Eurovision by taking a look at each of the entries who’ll be vying for the all-important European vote.
Yes, the pop-loving eyes of Europe will be firmly affixed on the Swedish city of Malmö, as 39 countries from across the region compete for the most coveted prize in music – the Eurovision Song Contest winner’s trophy.
As always, the competition is split into three finals; the two semi finals (to be held on May 14 and 16) and the grand final (on May 18), in which the victorious countries from the two semi-finals will line up alongside the host nation Sweden and the “big five” of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
In part 22 of our look at this year’s Eurovision entrants, we’re glancing momentarily at the Latvian entry.
PER : Here We Go
To say that pop outfit PeR has been desperate to win a ticket to Eurovision is quite the understatement. For the past four years the beatboxing outfit has participated in their country’s ‘Eirodziesma’ national selection in the hope of being chosen to represent Latvia at the highest level. Scratch third time lucky, because for PeR, it very much seems like it’s fourth time lucky. Ralfs and Edmunds will open the second semi final in Malmö with their English language offering ‘Here We Go’ and while it’s very up and bright, we reckon the boys’ beatboxing skills are far stronger than their vocal skills. That lil’ stumbling block might ultimately lessen their chances of making it through to the Grand Final on May 18.
