Can you believe that tonight marks just two weeks ’til the official kick-off of the first semi final at Eurovision 2013. Yes, the countdown has entered its last two weeks, but we’re not wavering in our task of bringing you a look at each and every one of this year’s entries in our yearly Countdown To Eurovision.
Yes, in two weeks, the pop-loving eyes of Europe will be firmly affixed on the Swedish city of Malmö, as 39 countries from across the region compete for the most coveted prize in music – the Eurovision Song Contest winner’s trophy.
As always, the competition is split into three finals; the two semi finals (to be held on May 14 and 16) and the grand final (on May 18), in which the victorious countries from the two semi-finals will line up alongside the host nation Sweden and the “big five” of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
In part 26 of our Countdown To Eurovision series, we’ve got our passport stamped for a trip to Ukraine!
ZLATA OGNEVICH : Gravity
So we might just have a battle on our hands. Though Denmark is odds-on favourite to take out this year’s competition, second in betting is this little song from Ukrainian songstress Zlata Ognevich. She’ll perform ‘Gravity’ as part of the first semi final on Tuesday May 14 before (undoubtedly) sailing through to the Grand Final a few nights later. It’s not the first time that Zlata has attempted to qualify to be her country’s entry for Eurovision… she tried unsuccessfully in both 2010 and 2011. But it seems like the third time’s a charm, because she’s there in 2013 – and she’s armed with a song that in turn comes armed with more money notes and key changes than we thought humanly possible in three minutes (move over Beyoncé’s ‘Love On Top’). To that end, if you are participating in any of the Eurovision drinking games, you’re sure to be pissed after this one song alone. Great song, diva vocals, stunningly beautiful woman… We like.
