Fans of US R&B star Jason Derulo have been incredibly patient in waiting for new music from their urban hero.
The singer was forced to cancel his Australian tour last year after fracturing a vertebrae during an acrobatic move as part of rehearsals for the tour. It was a moment in his career that changed him forever.
“That one experience helped me to grow up in a second,” he said in a statement. “I was on autopilot. I was going around the world. I was performing. I was just literally going through the motions…When that kind of thing is taken away from you, you realise how much you appreciate what you love doing and who you love.”
His single ‘Undefeated’ subsequently achieved gold sales and a top 20 position down under, suggesting that his fans here were understanding and forgiving.
Now almost 12 months later, Jason’s got new music in the offing, with ‘The Other Side’ – the first single from his forthcoming third studio album – being serviced to media this Wednesday. And he’s incredibly proud of the new music he’s about to serve up.
“I spent a year working on this album, and it’s become my best work thus far by far,” he said of the upcoming album. “I wanted to make a record that I wanted to listen to all the time. Not just this year, not just next year, but for a long time.”
‘The Other Side’ is set to premiere on Ryan Seacrest’s radio programme tomorrow in the US, with the album to follow later in the Aussie winter.
