The third and final new visual piece to the ‘Greatest Hits – Chapter One’ puzzle is finally here, with Kelly Clarkson unveiling the official video for ‘People Like Us’ late yesterday afternoon.
‘People Like Us’ follows on from 2012’s ‘Catch My Breath’ and the Vince Gill duet ‘Don’t Rush’, once again seeing her team up with producer Greg Kurstin, who was also behind her megahit ‘Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)’.
Kelly’s got us thinking that she’s one of the ‘people like them’, dressed in a lab coat; part of a team trying to figure out what’s so perplexing about a young girl who’s clearly more colourful then they. Turns out, however, that she’s actually one of the ‘people like us’ – the colourful ones whose time it is to shine.
A couple of product placements go on a little longer than they ought to have – and for a moment it appears as Kelly’s clip is being hijacked by a car commercial, but her ride helps her arrive at a much more colourful destination. A fierce, punchy song about empowerment and overcoming one’s fears and self-doubt.
