• Fans of British urban star Jay Sean won’t have to wait too much longer for a new album from their favourite performer, with Universal Music revealing that they’ll be releasing his new album ‘Neon’ late next month. Featuring lead single ‘Where You Are’, the album is set to drop locally on Friday June 28.
• Shock Entertainment is set to release the DVD of OMD’s ‘Architecture, Morality And More’ concert on May 10. Filmed in 2007 at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, the DVD captures the band performing tracks from their ‘Architecture & Morality’ album, along with a greatest hits set. It’ll also be made available on BluRay.
• auspOp reader Mike excitedly tells us that the Jonas Brothers’ new TV series ‘Married To Jonas : Season 2’ is set to premiere on the E! Network on Tuesday May 28 from 8:30pm. The boys recently released their new single ‘Pom Poms’ in Australia.
• Celebrated Australian performer Gurrumul has today released his illustrated biography. Entitled ‘His Life And Music’, the book takes you into the story of the singer/songwriter’s journey from the Yolngu heartland to the stages of some of the world’s most famous buildings. The release also comes complete with a bonus CD containing remixed versions of his songs.
• Boomtown Rats have announced their first Australian concert dates in more than 30 years. The band last played on our shores back in 1979, with Sir Bob Geldof obviously excited to be headed back in our direction. “Playing again with the Rats and doing those great songs again will be exciting afresh,” he said. “We were an amazing band and I just feel it’s the right time to re-Rat, to go back to Boomtown for a visit. And to commence our World Tour down under where we enjoyed enormous chart success could not be more appropriate.” The band plays Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on May 23 before a show at Perth’s Challenge Stadium on May 25.
• Manchester outfit Happy Mondays have postponed their Australian tour. Citing the ol’ faithful “unforseen circumstances”, the band was scheduled to hit Australia this week, but the dates have been pushed back to June. The re-scheduled dates are Metropolis Fremantle on June 05, Palace Melbourne on June 06, Tivoli Brisbane on June 07 and UNSW Roundhouse Sydney on June 10.
• West Australian songstress Abbe May will release her new album ‘Kiss My Apocalypse’ on Friday week. The new LP has been described as “unashamedly sexual and was produced throughout the past year and a half.
• Melbourne singer songwriter Vance Joy has inked a deal with the prestigious Atlantic Records. The new global contract will see Vance’s music released in all territories outside Australia and New Zealand, where he’ll continue his relationship with Liberation Music. Atlantic will release Vance’s debut EP ‘God Loves You When You’re Dancing’ internationally “over the coming months”.
• New music out doing the rounds this week include the previously mentioned new single for British boyband The Wanted ‘Walks Like Rihanna’, along with Haim’s ‘Don’t Save Me’, Imagine Dragons’ ‘Radioactive’ and Something For Kate’s ‘Star-Crossed Citizens’. • Over on this week’s UK chart, Daft Punk achieves what they couldn’t quite locally last week, premiering at No.1 on the British singles chart with their hot new single ‘Get Lucky’. The track, featuring Pharrell Williams on vocals, knocked off Rudimental’s latest ‘Waiting All Night’, which drops to No.2. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Can’t Hold Us’ heads into the top ten, placing at No.5 with a No.9 debut for Lovable Rogues’ ‘What A Night’. Passenger’s ‘Let Her Go’ (still No.1 here) bullets from No.44 to No.11.
• And Michael Bublé’s still No.1 on the British albums chart with ‘To Be Loved’. He’s settled in the top spot for a second successive week, holding off debuts from Frank Turner (No.2) and Will.I.Am (No.3).
