The name Liam Teer might not mean much to you, but if you’re a music lover, there’s every chance that there’s a little piece of Liam sitting around in your home somewhere.
Liam is the man behind some of the best-selling compilation albums in Australia’s history and through his work at EMI Australia over the past ten years, he’s put together some smashing pieces including the ‘101 Hits’ series, ‘Floorfillers’, ‘NOW’, ‘100% Hits’ and what are in our opinion the greatest compilation albums ever to have been released in this country, the magical ‘futurePOP’ series. Collectively, these compilations have gone platinum 29 times, double platinum twice and gold 53 times. In fact, it’s been said that one in two Australians have a piece of Liam’s work in their home.
So it stands to reason that after parting ways with EMI earlier this year, it was never going to be long before another label spied his talents and snapped him up in a deal to compile and release a swathe of brand new releases (in a range of different genres) for the Australian and New Zealand market.
That label is Shock Records, with General Manager Craig May full of praise for Liam’s work.
“Over the years that I have known Liam, I’ve always been astounded at the depth of his music knowledge. He has an amazing talent of bringing together a group of songs that makes the listener feel something more than the sum of its parts. I’m super excited to see what concepts he’s going to come up with, and to continue the great successes he’s achieved so far – that something like one in two Australian households owns one of his compilations is phenomenal, and a reflection of his genius,” he said in statement released today.
Liam, naturally, is also thrilled with the new deal.
“I’m so happy to be working with Craig and his team at Shock! With the advent of the mp3 file, the compilation album was widely expected to become a redundant format, yet it’s not only survived, but seems to have found a brand new lease of life in the digital age. There clearly remains a very healthy market for great compilation product, and I can’t wait to release the first of many exciting concepts we have on the drawing board this spring.”
Though his newly-established label Quarter Four, look for the first in a series of compiles from Mister Teer later this year.
