Full credit where it’s due… We don’t know many people in this fine country of ours who are as knowledgable or as passionate about the Australian music charts than chart historian Gavin Ryan. So when the team at Universal Music decided to pop out a compilation album called ‘Chartbusters’, they could really only turn to one man to write the liner notes for it.
‘Chartbusters’ is crammed with some of this country’s longest running No.1 hits spanning five long decades. From Daddy Cool’s ‘Eagle Rock’ in 1971 to Abba’s ‘Fernando’ in 1976 (No.1 for 14 weeks, don’t you know!). From Men At Work’s ‘Down Under’ in 1981 to The B52s’ ‘Love Shack’ in 1989 and from Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in 1990 to Lou Bega’s ‘Mambo No.5’ in 1999, there’s plenty for everyone, including a swag of pop from Pussycat Dolls, Cher, Aqua, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Carly Rae Jepsen, Spice Girls, Britney, Whitney and more.
And beyond all the incredible pop tunes contained therein, there are of course the amazing nuggets of Gavin’s chart information to go with each and every one of the 40 tracks featured.
‘Chartbusters’ will hit retail tomorrow.
