They conquered the ARIA top ten with their breakout smash ‘Pompeii’ earlier this year (‘if you cloose your eyes’) and British outfit Bastille subsequently popped into the top 30 again with follow-up ‘Laura Palmer’ and dropped by Australia in August for some live headline shows. Their latest single ‘Things We Lost In The Fire’ dropped at digital retail in EP form on Friday.
But over in their homeland they’re already onto their next single – ‘Of The Night’ – the lead track from a repackage of their ‘Bad Blood’ album called ‘All This Bad Blood’, which will drop in Britain late next month (no mention of Aussie action yet). The new edition features 13 new songs that will perfectly complement the original album’s dozen.
Fans of early ’90s dance/pop will instantly recognise the riff right from the get-go. It’s a cover of Corona’s classic single ‘The Rhythm Of The Night’, albeit given a more restrained, indie-pop kinda makeover. Is it cool? Has it been long enough since the original? The jury’s out, but we’re quite liking the layered vocals and even the demon-esque twisted vocals of the chorus.
