• The brand new single from superstar Scottish DJ Calvin Harris is now officially out and about, with Sony rushing the track to media yesterday. A collaboration with Swedish DJ Alesso, ‘Under Control’ features guest vocals from Theo Hutchcraft from British pop outfit Hurts. The single is available digitally now.
• Fall Out Boy will release a brand new EP at the end of next week. ‘Pax•Am Days’ was produced by none other than Ryan Adams at his studio in Hollywood and contains eight new recordings, all influenced by the ’80s punk genre. A new version of their latest album ‘Save Rock And Roll’ will also be released, containing the new EP. ‘Pax•Am Days’ and ‘Save Rock And Roll : Pax•Am Edition’ are both set for release on Friday October 18.
• Mushroom Records and RMIT are teaming up to present a unique exhibition entitled ‘Music, Melbourne + Me : 40 years Of Mushroom and Melbourne’s Music Culture’. To be held at the RMIT Gallery in Swanston Street Melbourne, the exhibition will run from November 19 to March 3, giving punters plenty of time to wrap their peepers around a host of songs, posters, photographs, costumes and memorabilia, some from the personal collections of Kylie Minogue, Crowded House, Skyhooks, Molly Meldrum and Michael Gudinski himself. Admission is free.
• Two of Australia and New Zealand’s most loved wordsmiths – Paul Kelly and Neil Finn – teamed up earlier this year for an unforgettable concert experience, putting a fresh and unique twist on tracks from their varied and extensive careers. Brilliantly, the concerts were captured for all eternity and are set to be released early next month. ‘Goin’ Your Way’ will see the light of day on Blu-Ray, DVD, double disc and deluxe editions, with THIS trailer giving you a hint of what’s to come. All are released on Friday November 08.
• Up and coming pop starlet Foxes will head to Australia next month for her first ever down under headline shows. She’ll hit the stage at Melbourne’s Toff In Town on November 13 and the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney on November 14, performing her beguiling single ‘Youth’, presumably along with her Zedd collaboration ‘Clarity’. Tickets for both shows are on sale from 9am Monday.
• US outfit Vampire Weekend will sink their teeth into the local live sphere early next year, announcing headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne on the back of their appearances at Falls. They’re set to play Melbourne’s Festival Hall on Monday January 06 before hot footing it to Sydney for a Hordern Pavlilion gig on Wednesday January 08. Tickets for both are on sale from 9am on Thursday October 17.• OneRepublic has knocked Mister Derulo from his No.1 mantle on the UK singles chart this week; ‘Counting Stars’ moving up two positions to claim the top spot ahead of a debut from Vamps’ ‘We Can Dance’. The new Chase And Status single ‘Count On Me’ premieres at No.5 and Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Something Really Bad’ can’t be all that bad, debuting at No.10.
• The battle for No.1 between Justin Timberlake and Haim was won by the latter this week; Haim’s album ‘Days Are Gone’ debuting in the top spot ahead of ‘The 20/20 Experience 2 Of 2’ from Mister Timberlake (at No.2). Alter Bridge’s ‘Fortress’ is at No.6 and Dizzee Rascal makes it a pair of tens… No.10 on debut with ‘The Fifth’.
