After three months of singing, dancing, mentoring and performing, the star-studded ‘X Factor’ finale came down to a battle between two.
But beyond the night’s official business, there was time to welcome back the top 12, along with guest stars Fall Out Boy (who performed with the top three), Guy Sebastian (no mention of his flame-haired backing singer Carmen Smith) and Katy Perry, who performed her international smash ‘Roar’ and later her new single ‘Unconditionally’.
With the festivities out of the way, however, there was a race of three that needed to come down to a battle between two.
Sadly, Jai was eliminated from the competition at the final hurdle, leaving just Taylor and Dami to battle it out for the coveted winner’s crown.
The obligatory judges’ comments and some grandstanding and “after the break”s later, Dami was finally crowned ‘The X Factor’ champion for 2013.
Dami’s journey to fame has been spectacular, morphing from an unassuming girl from the suburbs of Brisbane to a style queen, impressing all the while with those powerhouse vocals and steely determination. She mesmerised the judges at her audition with her rendition of Mariah Carey’s ‘Hero’, but also impressed in the live shows with her covers of U2’s ‘One’ and Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’, to name but two.
In winning this year’s competition, Dami picks up a recording contract with Sony Music Australia to release her debut single ‘Alive’, which was penned by the pop-writing hitmakers of DNA.
Of course, it certainly won’t be the last time we see any of the finalists, with the entire top five heading out on the road from later this month for the ‘X Factor’ live tour.
Dami, Taylor and Jai, plus Third D3gree and Jiordan Tolli will all be there when the tour kicks off at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on Saturday November 23. Tickets are on sale now.
